How to make waterproof makeup actually last 24 hours

Prep, layer and seal like a pro so your base survives humidity, tears, workouts and a full double shift.

Start with a grip, not a glow

Long wear is decided before the first drop of foundation. Cleanse, let your skincare fully absorb for two to three minutes, then press — never rub — a gripping primer over the areas that break down first: the centre of the face, the chin and around the nose.

If you're oily, skip the extra facial oil on those zones on heavy-wear days. Hydration belongs on the cheeks and outer face where movement is lowest.

Layer thin, dry between coats

Three sheer layers outlast one thick one. Whether you're using a BB serum or a stick foundation, build in thin passes and give each layer 20–30 seconds to set before touching the next.

Cream blush goes on before powder, powder blush after. Sandwiching in that order stops the colour lifting when you set the skin.

Seal in two passes

Mist once from about 25cm away, let it flash off, then mist again. The first pass melts the powder edges together, the second locks a flexible film over the top.

For all-day events, carry blotting paper instead of powder. Blot, then re-mist — that keeps the surface fresh without stacking product on your face.
