The Brow Tint Shade Guide

August 9, 2026 · 4 min read

How to pick between light brown, dark brown, black brown and ash brown — and how long tint really lasts.

The Brow Tint Shade Guide

Match to your roots, not your ends

The most natural brow sits one shade lighter than the hair at your roots. Coloured or highlighted hair should be ignored when shade matching.

Light brown

Best for blondes, light copper and grey-blending brows. Reads soft in photos and forgives a heavy hand.

Dark brown

The safest all-rounder for medium to deep brunettes. Warm enough to look grown, not painted.

Black brown

For black hair and deep cool-toned brunettes. Apply in thin strokes — the pigment builds fast.

Ash brown

Cool, smoky and neutral. Ideal if warm browns turn orange on you, and the best pick for a soft editorial brow.

Making tint last

Apply to clean, oil-free brows, leave the gel on for the full recommended time, and avoid oil-based cleansers on the brow area. A tint applied over skincare will lift in a day.
